Sunraysia’s budding young artists are encouraged to put their creative talents on show by entering the 2018 FReeZA Youth Art Prize.

The competition is a chance for local artists aged 12 to 25 to showcase their works, as well as inspire others in the community who will be able to view this year’s entries throughout August as part of a public exhibition.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Min Poole said entries are open across the breadth of artistic genres, including drawing, painting, photography, graphic design and 3D.

“The FReeZA Youth Art Prize is a great way to encourage young people in our community with an interest or talent in the arts to not only put their skills to work, but showcase them to the rest of our region,” Cr Poole said.

“It’s also a fantastic initiative to put the spotlight on the arts – in this case among our younger residents – as we’re fortunate to have a strong arts community in our municipality.”

Entries will be taken until 5pm on Monday 23 July, with artwork to be dropped off at the Mildura Visitor Information and Booking Centre (MVIBC) the following day.

Winners will be announced at a special event at the MVIBC on Wednesday 8 August from 5.30pm. One winner will be awarded in each artistic section, each receiving a $100 prize. There will also be an overall ‘Peoples’ Choice’ award.

Entrants’ artwork will then remain on exhibition at the MVIBC for the remainder of August, allowing the community to view and appreciate their works.

Entry forms are available from Council’s website at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/Services/Youth/Youth-Art-Prize.

Completed entry forms accompanied by a photograph of the artwork must be lodged electronically by emailing youthservices@mildura.vic.gov.au.

All entrants must live, work or study in the Mildura Rural City Council municipality at the time of entry.
