Spotlight on hearing health at Council this week

Sunraysia residents concerned about their hearing, or simply wanting a check-up, are encouraged take advantage of two free hearing clinics in Mildura this week.
In a collaborative effort between Mildura Rural City Council and Australian Hearing Mildura, the clinics will be held at Council’s Madden Avenue Service Centre this Wednesday and Thursday, 30 and 31 May.
Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Min Poole said seniors in particular should consider coming along to the clinics.
“Experts tell us that hearing loss increases as we get older, and the sooner it’s picked up and addressed the better, making our upcoming hearing clinics a valuable opportunity to get checked,” Cr Poole said.
All hearing clinics will be conducted by staff from Australian Hearing Mildura.
“Even if you don’t have hearing problems, this is a quick and easy way to learn more about your hearing health and how to look after it as you get older,” Cr Poole said.
She said this week’s hearing clinics have been scheduled to coincide with a period when many Sunraysia residents pass through Council’s Madden Avenue office to pay rate instalments, making it convenient to get their hearing checked at the same time.
Hearing loss facts:
- one in six Australians has hearing loss
- by 2050 this figure is expected to jump to one in four
- hearing loss affects more males than females
- about 37 per cent of hearing loss cases are due to exposure to excessive noise, making it the most significant cause of hearing loss in Australia.
