Our region boasts a proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, and a rich association to the culture and heritage of the First Peoples of Australia.

As a community, we can celebrate and acknowledge this rich culture through a range of events and initiatives, with our Cultural Calendar a perfect starting point.

Aboriginal Heritage

Mildura Rural City Council acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land which now comprise the municipality.

NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week is a national event which celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Ngiwa Yarna Committee

The Ngiwa Yarna Committee was established in late 2011 as a way of strengthening Council’s relationships and engagement with the local Aboriginal community.

National Sorry Day

National Sorry Day is held on 26 May each year to acknowledge and recognise members of Australia’s Stolen Generations.

National Reconciliation Week marks a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how we can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
