Community Recovery Support

Mildura Rural City Council will continue to support our community in its recovery from the Murray River flood event with the appointment of Community Recovery Officers and a series of events and other initiatives in flood-impacted areas.

Community Recovery Officers

As part of our region’s ongoing recovery from the Murray River flood event, Mildura Rural City Council now has two dedicated Community Recovery Officers.

Our Community Recovery Officers will coordinate a range of activities and events in flood-impacted areas, supporting communities including Nangiloc, Nichols Point, and Red Cliffs.

These activities could include community events, workshops, mental health support events and community resilience projects.

As part of their early work, our Community Recovery Officers are undertaking a comprehensive community consultation process to identify key projects and events that could support residents’ and businesses’ ongoing recovery.

Residents in flood-impacted areas can contact our Community Recovery Officers to discuss these opportunities on the details below.

The course requires some online training to be completed before the in-person training.

Studio De Vin Pop Up event - Nangiloc

More than 40 Nangiloc and Colignan residents came together on Sunday 21 January to create artworks as part of Mildura Rural City Council’s flood recovery initiatives.

Held at the Nangiloc Hall, artist Maddi from Studio De Vin guided a family class where students and parents painted Koko Koala, while the adults created a textured floral piece called ‘Bloom where you are planted’.

Designed to give participants an opportunity to tap into their creativity, learn new skills and catch up with others in the community, creative recovery projects have been shown to have a marked impact on lasting social capital and connection – as well as being a lot of fun!

A similar event is currently being planned for flood-affected residents from the Nichols Point/Kings Billabong area.
