The Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccine; Imojev (live attenuated vaccine), is available free-of-charge if you are aged nine months or older, live in the Mildura Rural City Council area AND
▪️ regularly spend time engaging in outdoor activities that place them as risk of mosquito bites, OR
▪️ are experiencing homelessness, OR
▪️ are living in conditions with limited mosquito protection (e.g. tents, caravans, dwellings with no insect screens), OR
▪️ are engaging in outdoor flood recovery (clean-up) efforts, including repeated professional or volunteer deployments*
*Vaccination can be administered before arrival in flood affected areas to those from other regions deployed for recovery efforts by arrangement.
Due to a state-wide shortage of JEV vaccine, as per the Department of Health directive, Council is only permitted to administer the Live attenuated vaccine (Imojev).
Imojev is contraindicated in pregnant women and immunocompromised people and is not licensed for use in children under 9 months of age. The inactivated vaccine (JEspect) is only available through your local GP or MDAS.
