Australian authors, illustrators, and other book creators can be compensated when their books, including eBooks and audiobooks, are borrowed from Australian public libraries.

During 2023-24 more than 18000 individual lending rights payments totalling over $26 million were paid to Australian authors and other book creators through the Australian Lending Rights Schemes.

So, when you visit your local library and borrow a book created by an Australian author or illustrator, they can receive compensation.

For more information on the Australian Lending Rights Schemes visit the Australian Government, Office for The Arts website here.
