BIG Summer Read
The Big Summer Read challenges you to pick up a book and keep reading over the holidays.
Anyone between the ages of 0-18 are welcome to participate!
Independent and non-independent readers can log any book they:
- Read
- Have read to them
- Listen to as an audiobook.
We encourage parents and caregivers to continue to read aloud to young people during the summer school holidays and log these books as part of the challenge.
Read and log least 10 books and be in the running for some fantastic prizes! And it is free! What are you waiting for?

How to Register
Kids are encouraged to keep reading over the summer holidays with an incentivised program that uses our new reading challenges website Readbooks.com.au When reading milestones are reached, kids earn ‘badges’ and increase their chances of winning a prize.
- See the Terms and Conditions below then click to register for your ReadBooks account.
- Start reading! Add the titles of at least 10 books in your Read Books account. Independent and non-independent readers can log any book they read, that is read to them or listened to as an audio.
- Finish your reading and log your books by 5pm, Friday 31 January 2025 to go in the prize draw*!
* If you prefer not to use the Read Books website, paper reading records will be available at your local library from Sunday 1 December. Only participants registered on Read Books will be eligible for the statewide prize draw.
Terms and Conditions
Terms and Conditions of the State Wide Prize Draw
- Readers can enter the statewide prize draw by registering for the Big Summer Read on Read Books and reading and recording 10 books between December 1st 2024 and January 31st 2025.
- Read Books registration can only be completed by individual readers aged 13+, or with consent from a parent or guardian 18 years or over.
- Big Summer Read is open to children age 0-18 years of age.
- Each reader can only enter the statewide prize draw once.
- The Statewide Prizes will be 4 Book Packs curated to suit the winners age; 0-4 years: Board books 5-8 years: Picture books 8-12 years: Junior fiction/graphic novels 13-18 years: YA fiction/graphic novels.
- Competition opens: Sunday 1 December 2024 at 9am
- Competition closes: Friday 31 January 2025 at 5pm
- No late entries will be accepted
- Statewide prize draw and winner notification is on 12 February.
- Winners will be determined by random draw, and one winner per library service.
- Winners will be notified by their local library service.
- If Winner cannot arrange collection of their prize within 14 days, local library service must contact PLV to draw a new winner.
