2017 FReeZA Committee nominations now open
Published on 16 November 2016
Mildura Rural City Council Youth Services is calling on nominations for the 2017 FReeZA Committee.
Council’s FReeZA Program is part of the Victorian State Government funded initiative which provides young people with an opportunity to plan, develop and deliver music and cultural events, while meeting other young people and providing a voice for youth in the community.
Nominations are now open to people aged 14-25 as of 1 January 2017 who live, work or study in the Mildura Rural City Council municipality.
General Manager Community Martin Hawson said this was a great opportunity for the youth of the municipality to have their say on services and events that mean something to them.
“FReeZA’s goal is to enable young peoples’ participation in the community through the planning, development and delivery of music and cultural events, in a ‘by youth, for youth’ approach,” he said.
La Trobe University student and 2016 FReeZA Committee member Latifa Jaffri, 21, said the committee was a great way to meet new people and contribute to her own community.
“FReeZA allowed me to meet new people and help out with the events that took place, which gave me experience and allowed me to share my thoughts and ideas to help make a better and exciting future for the youth in Mildura,” she said.
“I enjoyed being a part of the FReeZA Committee as everyone was friendly and respectful. Volunteering also made me feel good about myself.
“I strongly recommend joining this committee as it will develop your social skills and give you the opportunity to express your thoughts and concerns regarding issues in Mildura.” Latifa said.
Events held by the committee in 2016 included the Youth Arts Prize and Battle of the Bands.
Applications close Friday 2 December, 2016 and forms can be found on Council’s Website www.mildura.vic.gov.au.
