A message from the Mayor - Apply for a grant today
Published on 29 February 2016
Community grants are a key way Council works with local groups to support and empower people to make a difference locally.
With additional resources, skill development and support, our community groups can operate effectively, sustainably and importantly, can run independently from Council.
There are six different grant programs open at the moment, with funding from $1,000 up to $50,000 available depending on your project, program or event:
- Arts Development
- Commercial Waste Management
- Events and Festivals (for events held between 1 January and 30 June 2017)
- Recreation Development
- Recreation Facilities Upgrade
- Rural Access
So what can your group do with a grant from Council?
Maybe you want to introduce more environmentally friendly practices into your activities, maybe your facilities need an upgrade or your equipment needs refreshing, maybe you have an idea to engage more people with your group or you need seed funding to get an idea off the ground – any of these things have the potential to be funded under these grants.
Each grant focuses on a different area of our community and they have slightly different criteria and to make the most of these grants opportunities, groups and clubs are encouraged to work through their applications thoroughly before submitting them to Council. It is crucial that applications address all the requirements of the grant and are submitted on time.
I strongly recommend you contact Council officers to discuss your grant application before it is submitted.
Remember to grab yourself a copy of the current Council Plan as well. It clearly shows the focus for Council over the next few years and if you can align your project with some of our key goals, then that will give even more weight to your application.
Applications for this round of funding close at 4pm on Monday 21 March 2016 and specific details, application forms and grant guidelines are available through Council and online at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/grants
I look forward to seeing lots of new, exciting, innovative and community minded grant applications presented to Council very soon.
