Do you know someone who has made an outstanding contribution to our community?  Then why not nominate them for Mildura Rural City Council’s 2017 Australia Day Awards.

The Awards, which are announced at Council’s official Australia Day celebrations every year, are an opportunity to recognise and pay tribute to the people and groups that help make our community great.

“As there was last year, we have three different Awards up for grabs – Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event or Project of the Year,” Mayor Glenn Milne said today.  “These awards are a great opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to the people in our community who make a difference to our everyday lives.

The nomination process is relatively simple, with nomination forms available from Council’s Service Centres and online at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/Australia-Day-Awards

“You just need to complete the questions by telling us why you are nominating this person or group and return the form to Council by Friday 4 November,” said Cr Milne.

“Once nominations have closed, Councillors will read through the nominations and select the award winners based on their contributions to our community.

“The Australia Day Awards are for anyone who is a local hero, anyone who is truly unselfish, community minded and inspirational in their actions.”

This year Council awarded three Australia Day Awards to people and groups who made an outstanding contribution to local lives and communities during 2016.  This year’s winners were:

Young Citizen of the Year – Indi Clarke
Citizen of the Year – Frank McCormick
Community Event/Project of the Year – Patchewollock Music Festival

“If you have any questions about the process or need help with your nomination form, please contact Council staff who will be more than happy to assist you in any way.  They are also available to come to your community meeting and talk directly to you about the process,” Cr Milne said.

“This is a fantastic way to say honor someone who has assisted you this year or even over a number of years.”

Australia Day Award nominations are open now and close on 4 November 2016.  Nomination forms are available from all Mildura Rural City Council Service Centres and online at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/Australia-Day-Awards
