Australian singer/songwriter icon Neil Murray to star at MAC

Award-winning Australian singer/songwriter Neil Murray will perform at Mildura Arts Centre (MAC) this weekend, continuing MAC’s string of stellar live performances this year.

A founding member of the pioneering Warumpi Band and recognised as one of the country’s finest singer/songwriters, Murray will perform live at MAC on Saturday 29 May.

It will be an opportunity for Sunraysia live music fans to see him perform his latest single Keep Rolling On among a comprehensive repertoire of country/folk songs that have made him one of Australia’s most successful and prolific songwriters.

Councillor for Arts, Culture and Heritage Mark Eckel said Murray’s songs have been performed and recorded by some of the country’s biggest artists.

They include Missy Higgins, Powderfinger, Adam Brand and Christine Anu, who’s recording of My Island Home won Murray an APRA Song of the Year award in 1995. The song also featured in the closing ceremony for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the opening ceremony of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

“This is a great opportunity to experience one of our country’s finest artists who’s able to seamlessly shift from folk and country to rock and back again, making this a show for all ages and musical interests,” Cr Eckel said.

“Neil Murray’s performances are also well known for coming straight from the heart, guaranteeing an unforgettable experience.”

Cr Eckel said the performance of Murray’s latest song Keep Rolling On would be particularly relevant this week, during National Reconciliation Week.

“Keep Rolling On is about asserting and celebrating the continuance of sovereign First Nations People and their culture in Australia, which is particularly fitting given the timing of his performance in Mildura this week,” he said.

Neil Murray’s performance will be supported by local act Tiny Feet, which will sing all-original songs. Tiny Feet will be no stranger to local music fans, having performed on MAC’s Backstage Pass last year. This weekend’s show will be their first time performing live in front of an audience in the MAC theatre.
