Bands to battle it out this Friday

The 2016 FReeZA Push Start Comp will rock Mildura Senior College this Friday, with six artists vying for local bragging rights.
The competition is celebrating more than 20 years of uncovering new artists, with competitors once again having the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of their local community.
Mildura Rural City Council’s Community Wellbeing and Services portfolio Councillor Sharyon Peart said three bands and three solo artists had signed up this year, making it one of the biggest line-ups in recent years.
Competitors include bands Le Genie Du Ma, Loose Bricks and Overwound, with solo guitarists Cameron Tilley and Jacob Gange and drummer Ricky Newey also entering to showcase their talents.
“The FReeZA Push Start Comp is a great launching pad for aspiring musicians and singers in our community,” Cr Peart said.
“Over the past few years we’ve had many local winners making it to the state finals, which is a real tribute to the quality of musicians we are producing locally.”
“FReeZA provides opportunities for young Victorians between the ages of 12 and 25 to access music and cultural events safely and with supervision,” Cr Peart explained.
This year’s event will be held at the Mildura Senior College this Friday, 22 April from 7pm with all welcome to support the artists.
Local youth band Soul, will also entertain the audience. Soul have recently returned from launching their first EP “Millennium” at concerts around Victoria and have played with bands such as Trophy Eyes, Kingswood and Jackson Firebird.
“FReeZA events are always fully supervised, smoke, drug and alcohol free events, making them great for young people of all ages,” Cr Peart said. “But the doors are welcome to anyone who wants to come and support local emerging music.”
Tickets are $5.00 and available at the door with drinks, snacks and merchandise for sale on the night.
