Battle of the Bands fires up for 2016
Published on 24 February 2016
Nominations for the FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands competition are now open, with budding bands, solo artists and musicians wanting to break into the music industry encouraged to get involved.
Battle of the Bands has been uncovering new artists for more than 20 years, with competitors once again having the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of their local community, as well as having the chance to win their way to the FReeZA Push Start Grand Final.
Mildura Rural City Council’s Community Wellbeing and Services portfolio Councillor Sharyon Peart said the FReeZA youth development program has been going from strength to strength locally and has been a loyal supporter of this great event.
“FReeZA provides opportunities for young Victorians between the ages of 12 and 25 to access music and cultural events safely and with supervision,” Cr Peart explained.
“From duets and solo artists, to bands and hip-hop groups through to acoustic and electronic performers, the Push Start Battle of the Bands competition is a great launching pad for aspiring musicians and singers in our community.
“Over the past few years we’ve had many local bands make it to the regional and state finals. More importantly, the musicians are getting an opportunity to perform live and showcase their amazing talents.”
This year’s event will be held at the Mildura Senior College on Friday 22 April 2016.
In order to register, performers must live, work or go to school in the municipality with applications closing at 5pm on Friday 18 March 2016.
