Three bands and two solo artists will battle it out this Friday night in the Mildura FReeZA Battle of the Bands Competition.

Representing a broad range of genres from pop and folk through to heavy metal and surf punk, this year’s entrants once again illustrate the breadth of talent in Sunraysia’s young musicians.

They include soloists Tyler Ball (pop, folk pop and acoustic), drummer Ricky Newey (rock pop) and bands Le Genie Du Mal (heavy metal), Struth (pop rock) and Idle Suburbia (surf punk).

The five acts will take the Mildura Senior College stage this Friday night from 7pm to decide who makes it through to the next round of the competition, the Regional Finals, which will be held here in Mildura on Saturday, 21 October.

Winners from the nine regional finals will go on to compete in the grand final, which forms part of the annual Melbourne Moomba Festival in March next year.

Mildura Rural City Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Ali Cupper said the FReeZA Battle of the Bands was a great way for young musicians under 25 to get noticed.

“Year after year we see the rich pool of musical talent in our area and it’s great to see our musicians gain the increased exposure this competition offers, both locally and further afield,” Cr Cupper said.

“I wish this year’s entrants, which cover a diverse range of musical styles, the very best and encourage local music fans to come along and support them.”

The Mildura FReeZA Committee is offering cash prizes for the local winner, runner-up and most popular band, which will be judged by door vote.

Entry to this Friday night’s show is $5.00 with drinks and snacks for sale on the night.
