Mildura Rural City Council Library Service has expanded its Books on the Fly program at Mildura Airport to now include the Arrivals Hall.

Books on the Fly is an innovative lending library for people flying in and out of Mildura Airport, allowing passengers to either read while they’re waiting, or take a book with them for their journey.

The books are sourced through donations or items no longer required by Council’s library service, as well as passengers who may swap books they may already be carrying.

Up until now, the service, which has seen more than 1000 books swapped, ranging from novels through to children’s picture books, has only been available at the airport’s Departure Lounge.

Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica said that thanks to the success and popularity of the service, it is now available for people arriving in Mildura as well.

“We’ve had a fantastic response to our Books on the Fly program, which continues to be well used by people flying out of Mildura,” Cr Modica said.

“It’s a great partnership between Council and the Mildura Airport, which donated the space for the program, and actually suggested we expand it to include the Arrivals Hall as well.

“By expanding the service to include the Arrivals Hall, visitors or locals who’ve just arrived at the airport can now collect a book for their stay in the district while they wait for their luggage, or if there’s a book they longer need or want to swap, they can simple pop it into the box provided.”

Council’s library service welcomes donations of books in good condition which to add to its Books on the Fly collection. Donated books can be left at any Council library branch.
