Call for photographers to contribute to Flood: 12 months on exhibition
Published on 26 October 2023
Sunraysia residents have an opportunity to contribute to a new exhibition at Mildura Arts Centre (MAC) capturing the 2022 Murray River flood event.
Flood: 12 months on will predominantly feature images of the 2022 flood event, but also include imagery of the record 1956 floods.
Amateur and professional photographers/videographers are invited to contribute their images from the most recent flood as part of the exhibition.
Mildura’s Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Arts, Culture and Heritage Helen Healy said the exhibition was a unique opportunity to be part of a project that captures an important moment in our region’s history.
“The Murray River flood event was certainly a challenging time for many in our community and will be remembered for decades to come,” Cr Healy said.
“It also resulted in some spectacular imagery from both amateur and professional photographers, providing a wonderful source of material for Mildura Arts Centre’s upcoming exhibition, Flood: 12 months on.”
Submissions can include up to three images or videos, however final selection will be limited to one work per person. Photographers/videographers who are successful will be paid an artist’s fee for their contribution.
Those wishing to make a submission can fill out a proposal form, which is available by visiting www.milduraartscentre.com.au/WhatsOnPages/Exhibitions and clicking on the ‘Flood: 12 months on’ link.
Submissions can be made until 11.59pm on Thursday 9 November by emailing completed forms to gallery@mildura.vic.gov.au, or dropping them off to the MAC.
The exhibition will open on Sunday 10 December 2023 and run through until Sunday 18 February 2024.
While the 2022 flood event will be the main focus of the exhibition, it will feature historic photos of the 1956 floods from the Mildura Arts Centre Collection, showcasing the work of photographers including Michael Jobson, Ted Lawton, Don Turvey and Frank Zaetta.
