Community groups to share $225,879 in Council grants

Published on 26 October 2023

Thirty-one local clubs and organisations are set to share in more than $200,000 thanks to the latest round of Mildura Rural City Council’s Community Grants Program.

The grants, ranging from $1,800 to $10,000, will support cultural events, environmental sustainability initiatives, equipment purchases and community-based projects.

Community Development Portfolio Councillor Helen Healy said the Community Grants Program provided opportunities for not-for-profit community groups to deliver innovative local projects and programs that support Council’s vision of "making this the most liveable, people-friendly community in Australia”.

“These groups do such important, valuable work in our communities,” Cr Healy said.

“From providing opportunities for people to connect and participate, to supporting access, equity and social inclusion, environmental sustainability and the arts, there are some fantastic projects that Council is proud to give a funding boost.”

The 31 successful applicants include the Irymple Croatian Senior Citizens Club who will put a $6,000 grant towards digitising local historical data, and the Cowangie Cemetery Trust which will use their grant to help purchase a new ride on lawn mower.

Cabarita Community Inc., meanwhile, will invest their $10,000 grant in upgrades to the community centre at Cabarita, a building which was formerly used as a sailing club.

Council’s annual Community Grants Program offers two levels of funding including small grants, which are valued up to $6,000, and large grants, which are valued at $6,001 to $10,000. Recipients of large grants are required to make a co-contribution of at least 50% to be eligible.

All grant applications were assessed by an independent panel using set criteria before being officially endorsed by Councillors at the October Ordinary Council Meeting.

“On behalf of Council and the wider community we say ‘thank you’ to these groups and clubs and congratulate them on their successful grant applications,” Cr Healy said.

Council will host an official presentation event later this year to formally acknowledge all successful grant recipients.

The next round of Council’s annual Community Grants Program is expected to open again in July 2024.
