Residents in the streets surrounding Walnut Park in Mildura are being invited to a morning tea to discuss the future of the park’s rotunda and BBQ area.

Built prior to 2000, the rotunda was originally designed to provide a shaded meeting place for park users to enjoy, however it has recently fallen into disrepair and has been subject to vandalism over a number of years.

Community Development and Safety portfolio Councillor Ali Cupper said the amenity for neighbours and users of the park was very important.

“Council has had issues with vandalism and anti-social behaviour from some people using the rotunda and we’re trying to look at ways to improve safety in the area,” Cr Cupper explained.

“Our preliminary plan is to remove the structure and then work with the community to look at how we might be able to improve or update the facilities at Walnut Park and make them more suitable for the families and residents who live in the area.”

A community morning tea and consultation will be held on Saturday 27 February between 9:30am – 10:30am with interested residents welcome to come along and talk about what they would like to see.

Walnut Park is situated behind Ranfurly Primary School and at the end of a number of cul de sacs which run off Ontario and Walnut Avenues.
