One of the most anticipated components of the landmark Mildura Riverfront Redevelopment – the new Mildura Rowing Club and riverfront café - has now been completed.

King Constructions completed the building this month, paving the way for final fit-out by both the Mildura Rowing Club and HR Riverside Café Pty Ltd, which will trade as Café 1909.

The Mildura Rowing Club lease starts from today, while Café 1909 operators expect to begin trading early next month.

Mildura Rural City Councillor for Economic Development and Tourism Mark Eckel said the new Mildura Rowing Club and riverfront café were among the most talked about components of the riverfront redevelopment.

“From a local perspective this project has been eagerly awaited by both the Mildura Rowing Club and its members and the broader community, who for many years have wanted a major hospitality venue to enjoy on our beautiful riverfront,” Cr Eckel said.

“But from a tourism perspective, this venue will provide yet another significant boost to our riverfront precinct, the flow-on economic benefits of which will be felt throughout the district.”

Cr Eckel said the building, one of the final projects of the first stage of the Riverfront Redevelopment, was the result of months of planning and community input.

“The vision and planning for this project go back several years and include input from the community as well as key stakeholders, such as the Mildura Rowing Club,” he said.

“I think it’s important to acknowledge this Council’s ability to deliver what has been talked about for many years.

“To bring this type of project to fruition with minimal impact on the rate base is a significant achievement and demonstrates our ability to deliver on complex major projects.

“While this is only part of the riverfront development, it provides a complementary facility that was important enough to be included in our previous Council plan.

“This project was only possible through the ability to forge strong funding partnerships with State and Federal Governments, together with the Mildura Rowing Club.

“In this day and age this is the only way major projects of this type become possible and the ability to make such arrangements work then creates outcomes that the entire community can benefit from.

“Everyone involved in this project should be congratulated, as the final result is a spectacular addition to our riverfront and will be enjoyed for decades to come.”

Café 1909 will operate from the ground floor of the building and takes its name from the year the Mildura Rowing Club was founded.

The Mildura Rowing Club meanwhile will be situated on the upper floor, with a storage area for members’ boats on the ground floor.
