Council’s outdoor swimming pool season launches with a splash

Sunraysia residents are encouraged to enjoy a cool but safe summer beside one of our many pools as the 2017/2018 outdoor pool season gets under way today.
Council’s seven outdoor swimming pools, located at Colignan, Irymple, Merbein, Murrayville, Ouyen, Red Cliffs and Underbool open today, providing a chance for residents to enjoy the warmer months beside the water.
Mildura Rural City Councillor for Recreation and Sport Mark Eckel said that while Council’s outdoor pools were a great place to cool off during summer, it was important to ensure that everyone, in particular children remained safe around the water.
“This year we’ve once again subscribed to Life Saving Victoria’s Watch Around Water program in an effort to further improve safety for children around our outdoor swimming pools,” Cr Eckel said.
“With a focus on the slogan ‘Your Child, Your Focus’, parents, guardians or adults must ensure that children under 10 are accompanied by an adult and within sight at all times whilst at our facilities.
“For children under five, parents/caregivers must ensure their children remain within reach at all times.
“By following these simple steps we can ensure everyone enjoys a safe and enjoyable time by any of our public outdoor swimming pools this summer.”
Each of Council’s swimming pools have different opening hours and residents are encouraged to visit our website at www.mildura.vic.gov.au and navigate to Swimming Pools from the Services tab for more detail.
