Council leaders to feature in Library and Information Week storytimes
Published on 22 May 2020
Mildura Rural City Council Libraries will next week present a series of daily Stay at Home Storytimes featuring prominent Council leaders as part of Library and Information Week.
Two storytimes will be posted on the Mildura Rural City Council Libraries' Facebook page each day - one at 10.30am and one at 2.30pm - presented by Deputy Mayor Min Poole, Councillor Helen Healy and Council staff.
The only exception will be Wednesday, which is National Simultaneous Storytime, when the Mildura library service will join schools, kindergartens, families and libraries across Australia and New Zealand in reading the same book at 11am.
This year's book is Chicken Divas, a tale of two gorgeous chooks written by Lucinda Gifford, which will be read by Council's Chief Executive Officer Sarah Philpott on our library service's Facebook page.
As part of the National Simultaneous Storytime reading, children are encouraged to dress up at home in their favourite 'diva-riffic' outfits for Wednesday's event.
Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica said next week's Stay at Home Storytimes and National Simultaneous Storytime were further examples of the way library services have adapted to COVID-19 restrictions.
"Our library services team is continually coming up with creative options to ensure our community can access library services and programs, despite the pandemic," Cr Modica said.
"Next week's storytimes mean our community can remain connected, not just to their local library service, but to a much larger community through the National Simultaneous Storytime event, and all from the safety of their own homes."
