Mildura Rural City Council will present 15 local non-profit organisations with more than $70,000 in funding this afternoon as part of its Community Project Grants program.

The presentation at the Mildura Arts Centre foyer will include grants of up to $6000 for a host of innovative local projects or enhancements to local services that target recognised high-need groups.

They include $6000 to help Sunassist Volunteer Helpers purchase a food van trailer which will be used for fund-raising as well as a mobile kitchen for social events.

Monica Hensgen, through the Nichols Point Soccer Club, meanwhile will also receive $6000 for her Dreams in Motion project, offering free dance and/or singing classes to re-engage at-risk youth aged 12 to 18.

Other recipients include the Red Cliffs Golf Club to kickstart its Foot Golf For Sunraysia program, which aims to provide high-need community groups with the opportunity to participate in an international sporting event in their own region, and Zoe Support Australia for its Little Sprouts Op Shop which will provide work placements for clients.

Mildura Rural City Councillor for Community Development Min Poole said it was encouraging to see so many non-profit organisations and groups producing such a diverse and innovative range of projects.

“These non-profit organisations and groups work tirelessly to help others in the community and it’s rewarding from a Council perspective to be involved in helping these groups achieve their goals,” Cr Poole  said.

In total, $70,099.58 in grants will be presented to 15 groups or organisations this afternoon.

This afternoon’s presentation will be at the Mildura Arts Centre Foyer from 2.45pm and begin with a welcome performance by local Burundian Choir and grant recipient, the Mashaidi Wa Yesu Choir.
