Detox Your Home for free next weekend
Published on 01 November 2017
Next Saturday, 11 November is the perfect opportunity to Detox Your Home.
Detox Your Home is a safe, free and easy-to-use service allowing residents to dispose of common, highly toxic chemicals without impacting on their health or the environment.
Mildura Rural City Councillor for Environmental Sustainability Anthony Cirillo urged residents to take advantage of the service.
“A lot of us accumulate bottles and containers of common, sometimes highly toxic household chemicals in our cupboards or garden sheds throughout the year that we may have only used once or twice and no longer need,” Cr Cirillo said.
“Many of these chemicals can be dangerous. They can harm your family and pets, add extra fuel to a house fire, release toxic fumes, or pollute the environment for decades to come.
“Detox Your Home is the perfect opportunity to look through your cupboards to see what you no longer need and dispose of these chemicals for free without impacting on your health or the environment, and it’s a free service.
“It’s also a much better and safer way to dispose of unwanted chemicals than placing them in your kerbside bin, which could result in leaks, or dangerous, potentially explosive reactions if mixed with other materials.”
Provided in partnership with Sustainability Victoria, Detox Your Home will be held at the Mildura Landfill next Saturday, 11 November from 10am to 12pm.

- acids and alkalis
