Drivers urged to obey road signage

Published on 15 December 2016

Sunraysia drivers are reminded to obey road closure signs following a spate of incidents where drivers have either removed or ignored signage in recent weeks.

Council and VicRoads have numerous road closure signs across the district at present, designed to either protect the public or road infrastructure in the wake of recent storm and river-related flooding.

Council’s Manager Asset Services Mike Mooney reminded drivers that it was an offence to either remove or disobey road signage.

“These signs have been erected for the public’s safety, particularly given the amount of sitting water still in evidence in some areas,” Mr Mooney said.

“We also need people to avoid driving in recently flooded areas, as this can damage road infrastructure, leading to added costs and further delays in opening up roads.”

Mr Mooney said Council was working as quickly as possible to reopen roads currently closed to the public and asked drivers to be patient.
