If you have a problem-weed on your nature strip or garden that you just can’t get rid of, our Weed Education Stall at this weekend’s Sunraysia Farmers Market could be just what you’re looking for.

The stall will be operating at the market this Saturday from 8am to 12pm, providing advice and demonstrations on how to control weeds without using any toxic chemicals.

There will be samples of other environmental weeds that grow in areas of natural bushland as well. Community members will get a chance to guess what these species are.

Councillor for Environment and Farming Sustainability Anthony Cirillo encouraged residents to take advantage of the initiative.

“Weeds are the bane of many home gardener or property owner,” Cr Cirillo said.

“Our Weed Education Stall is a one-stop shop that can assist in controlling weeds you may have – whether it be caltrop, khaki weed or a host of other species that may be growing in your lawn or garden bed.

“Our Environmental Sustainability team can then provide advice on how to control these weeds, and dispose of them effectively.”

Cr Cirillo said information would also be available on native vegetation clearing on private properties as well as Council’s Bushland Watch program, which aims to protect our natural Mallee environment.

And as an added bonus, the team will be giving away gardening gloves to help make controlling weeds just that little bit easier.
