Electric Vehicle Showcase a first for Mildura region

Mildura Rural City Council will host the region’s first ever Electric Vehicle Showcase at the Mildura Riverfront in November.
The Showcase will run alongside the popular Sunraysia Farmers Market and Riverfront Boutique Market on Saturday 4 November, getting underway from 8am at Jaycee Park.
Councillor for Environment and Sustainability Jason Modica said the Showcase would provide a chance for the community to learn more about electric vehicles and their benefits.
“Council’s EV fleet will be on show at the event, with a number of local EV drivers also on hand to share their real-life experiences,” he said.
“This is a great opportunity for those interested to learn more about going electric, and Council’s work in this space.
“It’s also going to be exciting to deliver the Showcase alongside the Sunraysia Farmers Market and Riverfront Boutique Market – two events which draw large crowds to our Riverfront.
“I certainly encourage our community to head to Jaycee Park on November 4 for what is going to be a great morning along the riverfront.”
Cr Modica said that Council had already committed to fully electrify its light fleet by 2030 – an act that would “put a serious dent in our emissions, ensuring our region’s future sustainability.”
“Our EVs help slash running and maintenance costs compared to petrol or diesel equivalents, costing less than $5 to fully charge from 100 percent renewable energy and requiring much less maintenance - for example they don't need engine oil changes,” he said.
“Transitioning to EVs will also drive down our greenhouse emissions, given Council's fleet accounts for about 75% of the organisation's overall emissions, excluding landfill.”
The event forms part of Council’s commitment to become one of the most EV-friendly municipalities in Australia and respond to the climate emergency.
