Enjoy the great outdoors responsibly during holiday break
Published on 19 December 2016
WITH the Christmas holiday period now upon us, many will once again turn their attention to our region’s spectacular outdoors.
Whether it’s camping, four-wheel-driving, bird-watching, fishing, water skiing or nature-walking, there are plenty of activities to enjoy, however it’s vital locals and visitors also remember to treat the region’s natural areas with respect.
By following a few simple, common sense tips, we can ensure all residents enjoy the outdoors this summer.
Remember to:
- Dispose of your rubbish thoughtfully by taking it home.
- Avoid driving through muddy areas where flood waters have receded.
- Respect others using the natural areas.
- Drive vehicles only on formed roads and vehicle tracks that are open to the public – do not drive off-track.
- When using boats or holidaying on houseboats, please take care when mooring and make sure you leave the bank as you found it.
Mildura Rural City Councillor for Environmental Sustainability Anthony Cirillo said damage to the environment ultimately affects everyone.
“Damage to the environment, to roads, tracks and designated parking areas is costly for Council,” Cr Cirillo said.
“And having to tidy up and pick-up litter left by careless river and bushland users is just frustrating, and totally unnecessary.
“By following a few simple steps we can ensure our great outdoors, particularly our spectacular river environment, is able to be enjoyed for generations to come, instead of being shut down or ruined by the careless minority.”
