Final weeks for blockbuster exhibition
Mildura Arts Centre’s major exhibition, Mildura Revisited: sculptures exhibited 1961-1978 is gearing up for a grand finale, with the exhibition set to close on Monday 26 January.
The exhibition was unveiled on Friday 5 September and over 9,000 people from all around Australia have come to see the important art works so far.
Mildura Rural City Council’s Arts and Culture Portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn said the exhibition has received great acclaim and the final days would bring it to a close in grand style.
“In the final weeks, there are various events organised, including a documentary screening about the 1973 Mildura Sculpture Triennial and group discussion at 7:30pm this Thursday at the Mildura Brewery,” Cr Joslyn said.
“Also, this month’s Twilight event on Friday 23 January will take on a ‘60s and ‘70s inspired theme with music, food, drinks and kids workshops celebrating the era. People are encouraged to dress up in the ‘60s and ‘70s style to win some great prizes!”
Other events include a Kids Activity Book Adventure Trial at 10:30am Wednesday 21 January and a visit from Curator Ken Scarlett to present a final wrap up at 2pm on Sunday 25 January.
“We have been so very lucky to have Ken Scarlett curating the exhibition and making himself available to our community,” Cr Joslyn said. “Mildura revisited: sculptures exhibited 1961-1978 has reinvigorated discussions around the importance of sculpture to our artistic heritage and to our future direction.
“During the 1960’s and 1970’s Mildura attracted some of the world’s greatest sculptures and some truly inspirational and technically creative pieces were born right here,” Cr Joslyn explained.
The galleries have showcased of over 60 sculptures and personal documents from Mildura Arts Centre’s own collection, as well as loans from national, regional and private collections.
