Flying visit from acclaimed Aussie author

Mildura Rural City Council’s Library Service is set to start hearts racing, with multi-award winning romantic suspense writer, Helene Young flying into town next week.
Helene Young will be hosting an Authors Talk and book signing at the Mildura Library on Wednesday 17 June at 7:30pm, with the accomplished writer and former airline pilot having visited Mildura on a number of occasions as a pilot with Qantaslink.
The inspiration of her first novel Border Watch (now published under Wings of Fear) which was published in 2010, came from a real life experience, with Helene discovering a body washed up on a beach.
“I discovered a body washed up on the beach. While there was nothing sinister in that discovery, it planted the seed of an idea for a novel focusing on the terrorist threat to Australia,” Helene says on her website www.heleneyoung.com.
“Working as a captain with Australia’s largest regional airline I fly with crews who have flown for Surveillance Australia – the current Coastwatch contractor. That made it easy to draw on their experiences and weave my characters through a realistic scenario.”
Art and Culture portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn is encouraging everyone to come along to the event.
“Our Author Talks are one of the most popular programs run at the library,” Cr Joslyn said. “We’re very lucky to have such a great Australian writer visiting with us and it’s a fabulous opportunity for local literature lovers to hear firsthand about Helene’s storytelling process.”
Helene has written six novels with her stories Border Watch and Shattered Sky winning Romantic Book of the Year and Australian Romance Readers Association as Favourite Romantic Suspense respectively in 2010 and 2011. Half Moon Bay and Safe Harbour were also both voted the Australian Romance Readers Association as Favourite Romantic Suspense in 2013 and 2014.
Helene’s latest novel Northern Heat was released in May of this year.
