Mildura Arts Centre in collaboration with Arts Centre Melbourne, UK-based New Adventures and Re:Bourne, is hosting the free dance workshops for males aged 10 to 22 next month.

Mildura Rural City Council General Manager Community Martin Hawson said the workshops were open to those with or without dance experience.

“Mildura Arts Centre is delighted to work with such prominent organisations to bring a variety of programs into the community,” Mr Hawson said.

“So if you enjoy dance, movement or even sports, then this could be an ideal opportunity for you to express yourself in a fun way.

“Participation in the workshops could also give these young men the opportunity to audition to join the cast for the performance season of Lord of the Flies at Arts Centre Melbourne in April 2017.”

Written by Nobel Prize-winning author William Golding, Lord of the Flies is set on a fictitious tropical island in the Pacific Ocean.  A British plane crashes leaving a group of boys as the sole survivors. Lord of the Flies is considered one of the most seminal novels of the 20th century and has sold millions of copies around the world.

New Adventures is a UK-based dance company, with Re:Bourne its charitable arm, delivering more than 300 workshops per year. Re:Bourne works with more than 7000 children, young people and emerging artists, delivering ground-breaking dance theatre projects in the UK and internationally, including of course, Lord of the Flies.

The Mildura workshops will be co-led by two highly experienced Australian community dance artists who have been trained by New Adventures & Re:Bourne.

The workshops will be adapted to suit the background and/or ability of the group and are designed to be well-rounded and fun in nature, drawing broadly on the themes of Lord of the Flies, including imagination, musicality, physicality, inner strength, brotherhood, leadership, instinct, difference, vocalisation and both rule-making and rule-breaking.
