Get your flu shot as winter approaches
Published on 22 April 2022
Sunraysia and Mallee residents are being urged to get their flu shot ahead of winter, with Mildura Rural City Council hosting a series of vaccination clinics across the region.
Council’s experienced nurse immunisers will be available to administer the influenza vaccine in Mildura, Red Cliffs, Ouyen, Underbool and Murrayville.
Bookings are now open for flu shot appointments.
Mildura Mayor Liam Wood urged residents to make the most of this opportunity to protect themselves ahead of the winter months.
“Advice from health experts is that vaccinating against influenza is more important this year than ever,” Cr Wood said.
“Over the COVID-19 period there has been lower exposure to the flu and lower levels of influenza vaccine coverage compared to previous years. With borders reopening and people moving around more there is the possibility of a resurgence of influenza in 2022.”
“Yearly vaccination against the flu is recommended, for all people aged six months and over.”
The flu shot is free for people who are at high risk of complications from flu including babies and children aged between 6 months and under 5 years, people aged over 65, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, pregnant women and people with chronic illness.
A fee of $22 applies to all other people. Clinics only accept EFTPOS payment. To pay by cash visit one of our Service Centres between 8am and 4pm weekdays.
