Gold for Council
Published on 12 October 2015
Mildura Rural City Council has been recognised for its dedication and commitment to improving sustainability, productivity and processes and systems at the 2015 Australian Organisational Excellence Awards.
The awards, which are hosted by the Australian Organisational Excellence Foundation, were announced on Wednesday 7 October 2015.
Council’s CEO Gerard José said the award is a fantastic achievement by Council, with only two Gold awards handed out this year.
“Council has been recognised in the past for their commitment to the Australian Business Excellence Framework, receiving a Bronze Award in 2009,” Mr José said. “To receive a Gold Award shows the organisation as a whole has taken major steps forward since then.
“It’s a credit to the perseverance of staff, the commitment by the leadership team and it highlights we are on the right track when it comes to sustainability and improving our systems.”
Organisations who follow the Australian Business Excellence Framework commit to nine key over-arching principles of Business Excellence including leadership, continuous improvement, corporate and social responsibility and sustainable results. The framework itself includes seven categories which organisations are rigorously tested against during the awards process:
- Leadership
- Strategy and Planning
- Information and Knowledge
- People
- Customers and other Stakeholders
- Process management, Improvement and Innovation
- Results and Sustainable Performance
Mr José said the nine principles that underpin the Framework are ingrained in everything Council does and are outlined in the 2013 to 2017 Council Plan.
“Winning this award isn’t saying we’re perfect but it is saying we have established best-practice policies, processes and systems and we’re continually focusing on getting better at what we do.
“The process was in-depth and detailed. It included a full evaluation by the Australian Organisational Excellence Foundation’s panel of independent members, which consists of judges from a wide range of industries including private enterprise and international businesses who are all experts in business development and best practice trends.”
Other winners this year included:
- City of Melville – Gold Award
- Precision Electronic Technologies – Silver Award
- International Education Services – Bronze Award
- Yarra Trams – Recognition in Excellence
- Logan City Council – Recognition in Excellence
