Emily Brontë’s much-loved gothic masterpiece Wuthering Heights storms into Mildura Arts Centre this month as part of its four-month national tour.
Arts and Culture Portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn said Wuthering Heights is sure to be hit with those familiar with the story and also new comers to this tragic tale, with a special bonus offer for ticket holders.
“shake & stir theatre co. have visited Mildura previously having brought their productions of Animal Farm and 1984 to Mildura Arts Centre,” Cr Joslyn said. “Wuthering Heights is the next adaption for the award-winning company.
“In a very special bonus, Wuthering Heights ticket holders will be able to book in for a free Gothic Theatre Workshop with the stars from the show. This is a fantastic opportunity for budding actors to get a private lesson from some of Australia’s most talented theatre performers.”
The Gothic Workshop will be held at 2pm on Friday 22 April and with limited places, bookings are essential.
Wuthering Heights tells the story of Heathcliff, a mysterious boy who is rescued from the street and brought to Wuthering Heights, where he develops a passionate bond with Catherine Earnshaw. As time passes, Heathcliff and Catherine's relationship deepens to the point of dangerous obsession, until one day, Catherine marries another man. Overcome with jealousy, Heathcliff flees the Heights only to return, years later, ready to exact revenge on those he believed ruined his one chance at happiness.
Wuthering Heights has been a hit already across Australia playing a sold-out season at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in 2014 and receiving great reviews:
“shake & stir theatre co is undoubtedly Brisbane’s (nay Australia’s) best literary stage adaptors, and they continue to carry the mantle in their new adaptation of Emily Brontë’s gothic masterpiece, Wuthering Heights.” Aussie Theatre.
shake & stir’s Artistic Director Nick Skubij is well known for both his directing and acting adapted and Wuthering Heights like every other shake & stir production, tries to reinvigorate classics with a modern twist for a new audience.
“We’re so very lucky to have performances of this calibre coming to our region,” Cr Joslyn said. “I really encourage you to get along and support these amazing stage productions.”
Wuthering Heights will show at 11am and 7:30pm on Friday 22 April with tickets on sale now from Mildura Arts Centre and the Mildura Visitor Information and Booking Centre.
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
