Have your say on 10-year Cultural Strategy
Published on 12 December 2023
Mildura Rural City Council is calling on the community to have its say as we create a Cultural Strategy for our region.
The Strategy aims to identify our community values, while setting future priorities.
It also aims to:
- Set a vision for cultural life in our region
- Identify key opportunities and areas of focus
- Define Council’s role and guide its investments.
Council has engaged external consultants Material Thinking to develop the 10-year Cultural Strategy, including leading consultation with key stakeholders.
Interviews and workshops are already underway, with the community also able to contribute to the Strategy’s development by completing our online survey at yoursay.mildura.vic.gov.au/cultural-strategy
Councillor for Arts, Culture and Heritage Helen Healy said the new Cultural Strategy would help create guidelines and invigorating ideas to support our strong and inventive community.
“Culture is who we are – it’s our shared beliefs and values. It covers our history, the ways we work, play and socialise,” Cr Healy said.
“Culture lives in our languages, music, artmaking, built environment, sports and leisure activities. It is embedded in the ways we grow and share food.
“What are the stories, activities and places where people of Sunraysia come together and feel inspired? How do our residents understand their past, relate to their environment and imagine the future?
“What are the images, smells or sounds that most remind you of the place you live and love?
“These are the questions we’re asking as part our Cultural Strategy’s development.
“We want to hear from people of all age groups across our region.
“We want to know what inspires you and in what ways can life in this region be further enriched.”
Consultation will continue through to the New Year, with the Draft Cultural Strategy to open for community feedback in early 2024.
