Invitation to take action on climate emergency
Published on 01 February 2022
Sunraysia residents can help play a leading role in combatting and adapting to climate change in our region by joining the Climate Emergency Community Advisory Group.
Expressions of interest are now open to join the group, which is responsible for guiding the development, facilitation and implementation of a Climate Emergency Plan, featuring community-owned strategies to address climate change.
Councillor for Environment and Sustainability Jason Modica said Council was ideally seeking expressions of interest from a very broad range of people to fill vacancies on the group.
"To help ensure a broad range of community issues are considered by the group, we're encouraging representatives spanning diverse areas and sectors across our region, from environment, business/industry and youth, through to health, social inclusion and agriculture," Cr Modica said.
"Climate change is a global problem that affects all of us, highlighting the need to include input from as many different sectors in our community as possible."
Expressions of interest are open until Friday 18 February and can be made by visiting www.mildura.vic.gov.au/climatechange.
Formed in July 2021, the Climate Emergency Community Advisory Group is made up of seven community members and two Council officers.
It has so far heard from a number of industry experts while exploring themes including built and natural environments, business/industry and farming as they relate to the climate emergency.
