It’s time to move it Mildura for Premier’s Active April
Published on 23 March 2016
With the Premier’s Active April registrations now open across Victoria, Healthy Together Mildura are jumping on board and offering local participants exclusive prizes and incentives to get involved.
The Premier’s Active April is an annual program that offers an exciting and fun way to get active, stay healthy and enjoy time with family, friends and work colleagues.
Active April encourages all Victorians to commit to doing 30 minutes of physical activity a day during April.
Community Wellbeing and Services Portfolio Councillor Sharyon Peart said people of all ages and fitness levels can join Active April and reap the rewards of a more active, healthy lifestyle.
“The Premier’s Active April is about getting out there and being active for 30 minutes every day. It isn’t a competition, instead it’s about challenging yourself, whatever your level of fitness, to get out and get moving.”
Current statistics show more than 60 per cent of Australian adults fail to meet the recommended daily levels of physical activity, while 80 per cent of children don’t exercise enough. This lack of regular exercise is shown to contribute not only to an increased risk of developing chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease, but it’s also estimated to cost the Australian economy a total of $13.8 billion each year.
Registrations for Active April are now open and will stay open until 30 April 2016 with both individuals and teams invited to join.
“There are a lot of great tools online to help keep you on track, including a handy online Activity Tracker to log your daily activity and compare progress,” Cr Peart said.
And while every person who registers to take part in Premier’s Active April goes into a state wide prize draw and has the opportunity to great prizes like tickets to the 2017 Australian Tennis Open Finals, a $1,500 bike voucher or a GoPro Camera, Healthy Together Mildura is also working with local partners to offer special prizes and incentives for local participants*.
