Jam-packed March Twilight

Published on 16 March 2016

Twilight at Mildura Arts Centre attracted over 300 people last month, and with cooler weather on the horizon, this Friday’s Twilight is shaping up to be just as popular with the local and visitors.

The outdoor event will once again be jam-packed with lots of art, live music and kids’ activities including a collaborative installation and performance by Simon Hopkinson and Gary Willis for ARTWORK.  ARTWORK was originally an art performance project featured in the 7th Sculpture Triennial held throughout March and May in 1978.

Arts and Culture Portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn said local band Sibin (pronounced Shebeen) will also be providing the much loved live music on the night. Sibin started out playing traditional Irish tunes and have gradually developed their own style and sound based on a love of varying music genres, blending electric guitars and drums with traditional Irish instruments and melodies.

“Sibin performed last year at Twilight and are back again due to popular demand,” Cr Joslyn said. “They perform locally and also enjoy playing at Celtic and Irish music festivals across Australia.  The current band line-up includes Mark Jenkins on lead vocals and guitar, Charles Hendy on tin whistle and flute, Corey Barbary on tenor banjo, mandolin and electric guitar, Brad Monaghan on drums and Tim Williams on bass guitar.”

Inside MAC, the gallery spaces, Rio Vista Historic House and the licensed café will also be open for the evening, with the public able to take the opportunity to see the Interpretive Wonderings: Mapping Culpra Station exhibition before it closes next month.

The recently completed refurbishments in Rio Vista will also be on display with visitors encouraged to view the Best Bedroom and see how the repairs to the ceiling and the recreated wallpaper bring this room back to its original grandeur.

“As always there is something a little special for the kids too,” Cr Joslyn explained.  “This month we are inviting kids to come along to Twilight dressed in their favourite costume and join in the fun activities including the creation of giant cardboard costumes which will provide fun photo opportunities for carers.”

Twilight at Mildura Arts Centre is on from 5pm to 8:30pm, and drinks and snacks including antipasto platters are available from the café (No BYO alcohol).
