WHETHER it’s bringing in the New Year with two spectacular fireworks shows or a feast of live entertainment for both children and adults alike, Mildura Rural City Council’s annual New Year’s Eve celebrations will have something for everyone.

Starting at 7pm on Saturday 31 December at Mildura’s Nowingi Place, this year’s free event features a packed program of live performances.

They include popular acoustic duo Stephanie Rogers and Ben Bamborough, local group The Frogstompers Band and That 70s Show from Ratbagz Comedy Theatre.

Children’s favourite Paw Patrol will also take the stage to the delight of youngsters of all ages, and after a second stage show, will provide a 15-minute opportunity for fans to meet-and-greet the team.

Rounding out the night’s live performances will be The Voice Australia star Peta Evans-Taylor, who will once again wow audiences with her big voice and rocking stage presence.

Along with her band, Peta will perform a popular range of both covers and original material, proving just why she was recently announced Best Live Act at this year’s Music Oz Awards.

There will also be plenty to see and do off-stage throughout the night, with a wide variety of children’s amusements and rides, as well as eight food vendors, ensuring no-one goes home hungry or thirsty.

Capping off the night for many will be two spectacular fireworks displays.

The first will light up the Mildura riverfront at 9.35pm followed by the finale just as the clock strikes midnight to bring in 2017.

Mildura Mayor Glenn Milne welcomes people of all ages to see in the New Year at Council’s official celebration.

“Each year, thousands of people join us to celebrate the New Year, including everyone from children to adults, and the many visitors in the area over the holiday break,” Cr Milne said.

“With such a packed program of live entertainment, a host of activities for the kids, and our spectacular riverfront as a backdrop, this would have to be one of the best ways to see in the New Year in our region, and it’s free to the community.”

Those attending Council’s New Year’s Eve celebrations are encouraged to bring along a deck chair, rugs, a picnic and insect repellent.

People are also reminded that Council’s New Year’s Eve event is strictly drug, alcohol, glass and smoke-free.

People driving to the event are encouraged to use the Nowingi Place car park off Seventh Street.

Pet owners are also reminded to ensure their animals are kept secure on New Year’s Eve as fireworks displays can scare cats and dogs, causing them to escape from their yards.
