Mildura Arts Centre is participating in Slow Art Day for the second consecutive year this weekend.

Slow Art Day is an international event with a simple mission - to help more people discover for themselves the joy of looking at and loving art.

Mildura Rural City Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica said many people look at art but few people actually take the time to slow down and really look at the works and understand them.

“Mildura Arts Centre is excited to participate in Slow Art Day and will host a number of events aimed at creating opportunities for participants of all ages to slowly look at art and share their own thoughts about the pieces,” Cr Modica said.

“We hope that Slow Art Day at Mildura Arts Centre will encourage new people to visit and take part in a worldwide event.“

Additionally, the community is encouraged to participate in a communal drawing on Slow Art Day at Mildura Arts Centre, where people of all ages can contribute to the development of one big artwork.

Slow Art Day at Mildura Arts Centre

Saturday 8 April

10am-11am

Kids: Visual Thinking and Games

Children will enjoy a Visual Thinking Strategy-style Gallery tour with a trained member of the Gallery team. They will be able to explore ways of thinking about art while discovering new elements of the work around them. The tour will conclude with some art-themed games.

Young Adults & Adults: Art Work View and Discussion

Participants will discover more about the artworks exhibited at Mildura Arts Centre. They will be asked to look at the work ‘slowly’, share their thoughts and find out interesting facts about the artworks and artists.

11am-1pm

Community Social Drawing

This is an addition to the monthly event, A Social Drawing Afternoon.  Participants are encouraged to put pencil to paper and make a large community drawing.  People of all ages are invited to join in and create something wonderful with other members of the community. Any style of drawing is welcome.
