Join the war on waste at our Swap Party
Published on 14 November 2017
Mildura Eco Village and Sunraysia Sustainability Network are calling on Sunraysia residents to join the war on waste and take part in our Swap Party during National Recycling Week, which runs from 13 – 19 November.
The swap will provide a chance for participants to update their wardrobes, bookshelves and bric-a-brac collections by swapping their unwanted items with other members of the community.
In a unique dose of retail therapy, the initiative extends the life of usable items, not only providing a great, environmentally friendly alternative to buying new items but a chance to save some money.
Mildura Rural City Councillor for Environmental Sustainability Anthony Cirillo said the swap involves participants exchanging good quality items, such as clothes, books, CDs, children’s toys and sporting equipment for tokens.
These tokens are then used to ‘purchase’ pre-loved products that have been brought along by others.
“This a great, fun initiative that not only provides a chance to clear out your wardrobe or shelves by swapping good quality, clean items you no longer need, but you’ll be able to pick-up something ‘new’ as well as meet a heap of like-minded people,” Cr Cirillo said.
“It’s also a chance for the community to participate in National Recycling Week by reducing, reusing, recycling, or in this case exchanging items that are no longer needed.”
Residents have three opportunities to drop-off items they wish to swap at Mildura Eco Village ahead of the Swap Party this Sunday, 19 November:
Wednesday, 15 November
3pm – 5pm
Friday, 17 November
3pm – 5pm
Sunday, 19 November (before the swap)
10.30am – 11.30am
The Swap Party itself will run from 12pm to 3pm this Sunday, 19 November.
