Join us in celebrating the role of people with disability
Published on 23 November 2018
Mildura Rural City Council will celebrate the contributions of people with disabilities in our region with a special event at Nowingi Place early next month.
Part of International Day of People with Disability 2018 celebrations, Council has organised an afternoon of activities on Monday 3 December.
Running from 4pm to 7pm, the event will feature entertainment by the Benetook Song and Dance Group, and a barbecue provided by the Mildura Lions Club among a host of activities for people with disabilities. Representatives from Sunraysia’s numerous service providers will also be on hand to join the celebrations.
Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Min Poole said the event was a chance to join millions of people around the world in celebrating and raising awareness of the valuable role people with disabilities play in our community.
“This is a fantastic way for people with disabilities to celebrate who they are and what they have to offer our municipality,” Cr Poole said.
“It’s also a way to break down barriers in our community.”
The theme for this year’s event is ‘Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality’.
“Importantly, International Day of People with Disability also raises awareness in relation to how we can better support people with a disability in Sunraysia, as well as the services that are available,” Cr Poole said.
“I encourage everyone to help us celebrate this special day, whether it be people with disabilities, or their families, friends or supporters.”
