The community is invited to play a role in improving urban biodiversity in the Robbins Wetland area in South Mildura as part of Mildura Rural City Council’s National Tree Day event this Sunday.

Councillor for Environment and Sustainability Jason Modica said the event was a chance for residents to come together and meet new people, all the while helping to plant 200 trees in the area.

“National Tree Day is a great initiative as it’s both a social and educational activity as well as serving a host of environmental benefits,” Cr Modica said.

“Our Environmental Sustainability Team have chosen the Robbins Wetland area this year as it’s been identified as important due to the habitat it creates for plants and animals.

“By planting 200 trees we’re aiming to help regenerate the area, increase biodiversity and beautify the local park, so there are a whole host of benefits.”

This Sunday’s National Tree Day event will get underway at 10am and run through to 11am, with morning tea provided.

Robbins Wetland is on Rita Drive, off Ontario Ave, close to Sixteenth Street.

Council will provide gloves, tools, watering cans, buckets, drinking water and refreshments. Participants are asking to wear appropriate clothing, including good sturdy shoes and long pants.
