Kenny Park to benefit from new netball facilities

Mildura Rural City Council expects to complete work on new netball facilities at Merbein’s Kenny Park by mid next year following this week’s $100,000 funding boost from the Victorian Government.
Council applied for the money through the Victorian Government’s Country Football and Netball program, which will help fund construction of a second netball court and installation of competition-standard lighting.
Council has committed $126,297 to the $341,297 project, which will be matched by a combined contribution from the Merbein Football Netball Club and the Sunraysia Football Netball League.
Councillor for Recreation and Sport Mark Eckel welcomed this week’s funding, which was announced during a visit to the region by Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp.
“This really is a great example of what can be achieved by Council working as a collective with local sporting associations and clubs, and government, to achieve positive outcomes for our community,” Cr Eckel said.
“The addition of a second netball court at Kenny Park will be a major boost, not just for players and their families, but the club generally.”
Cr Eckel said work was expected to be completed on the new facilities by mid-next year.
“If all goes to plan, I’m hoping our Merbein netballers will be able to start playing on their new courts by June next year,” he said.
