Kerbside bin collections Christmas Day and New Year’s Day
Published on 16 December 2014
Mildura Rural City Council is advising residents of temporary changes to its kerbside rubbish and recycling bin collection schedule during the holiday period.
There will be no collections on the Christmas Day or New Year’s Day public holidays. Instead these collections will be done on Saturday 27 December 2014 and Saturday 3 January 2015.
Councillor Judi Harris said these changes impacted residents whose regular bin day was Thursday.
“If you usually put your bins out for collection on a Wednesday night, these alternative arrangements will apply to you,” Cr Harris said.
“Christmas and New Year are always very busy times with as much as 30% more waste produced, so we appreciate how important it is for residents to have their bins emptied at this time of year.”
Cr Harris said about 5,000 residents would be impacted by the change. This includes everyone that lives in Merbein plus people residing between Eighth Street, Fourteenth Street, Deakin Avenue and Riverside Avenue in Mildura.
“Council is making every effort to ensure all impacted residents are aware of this temporary change and we encourage people to share the information with friends, family and neighbours to ensure they are aware.”
Over the busy holiday period the Mildura Landfill will be open every day except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Excess packaging, cardboard and polystyrene that doesn’t fit in kerbside recycling bins can be dropped at the Landfill to be recycled for free.
