Mildura Rural City Council is advising residents of temporary changes to its kerbside rubbish and recycling bin collection schedule during the holiday period.

There will be no collections on the Christmas Day or New Year’s Day public holidays. Instead these collections will be done on Saturday 26 December 2015 and Saturday 2 January 2016.

Councillor Judi Harris said these changes impacted residents whose regular bin day was Friday.

“If your bins are usually emptied on a Friday and you normally put them out for collection on a Thursday night, these alternative arrangements will apply to you,” Cr Harris said.

“Christmas and New Year are always very busy times with as much as 30% more waste produced, so we appreciate how important it is for residents to have their bins emptied at this time of year.”

Cr Harris said about 4,700 residents would be impacted by the change. This includes everyone living in Irymple and Nichols Point, as well as people residing between Eighth and Fourteenth Streets and Deakin and Riverside Avenues in Mildura.

“Council is making every effort to ensure all impacted residents are aware of this temporary change and we encourage people to share the information with friends, family and neighbours to ensure they are aware.”

Over the busy holiday period the Mildura Landfill will be open every day except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Excess packaging can be dropped at the Landfill to be recycled for free.
