Kids on Tour workshops head to MAC

Looking for something to fill in the last few weeks of the school holidays? Then Mildura Arts Centre (MAC) might have something for you.

MAC will be participating in the National Gallery of Victoria’s Express Yourself! Kids on Tour Children’s workshops which are currently touring Victoria these holidays. The workshops provide a range of hands-on activities to allow children to enjoy the process of making art, with a focus this year on fashion and design.

Arts and Culture portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn said this is a great opportunity for young people to work closely with artists and to find ways to express themselves through a variety of mediums. “From jewellery design and production, to creating an Australian animal through origami and paper engineering, to looking at the fashion world of legend Jean Paul Gaultier, these workshops are a fabulous approach to introducing children to the many different ways art can be expressed on a daily basis,” Cr Joslyn explained.

The workshops are suitable for anyone over the age of 5 and will run from 10:30am until 12:30pm on Tuesday 20 January and Thursday 22 January. “It’s important that you call up and book a place for your child as places are limited,” Cr Joslyn said.

A separate school holiday program will also be held on Wednesday 21 January from 10:30am as part of the Mildura Revisited: sculptures exhibited 1961-1978 closing week, with the gallery team exploring the sculpture exhibition with an adventure trail and activity booklet for all the family. “Our MAC holiday programs have been really successful and is a great way to introduce kids and also their parents and carers, to all the precinct has to offer,” Cr Joslyn said.
