Kingswood return as Triple J donations help fund “Encore”

Donations to Mildura’s FReeZA Committee at the Triple j One Night Stand eighteen months ago are helping to fund one of the biggest Push Start Battle of the Bands finals ever undertaken locally.
Not only will music lovers witness the Wimmera Mallee final between local band We are a band thing and Horsham band Empire, they will also see five local bands take the stage at the “Encore” event as supporting acts to the headline Melbourne indie-rock band, Kingswood.
Kingswood performed locally to a sellout crowd at a Triple j after party hosted at The Setts and are currently on a national tour supporting rock royalty, AC/DC. They have also played major music festivals such as Big Day Out, Splendour in the Grass and Groovin’ the Moo, with their debut album making it to number 6 on the ARIA charts.
Community Wellbeing and Services Councillor Sharyon Peart said the lineup for "Encore" is a major coup for the FReeZA Committee with the December 4 event to be held at Nowingi Place.
“The Push-Start Battle of the Bands finals are always exciting, but to have Kingswood heading back to Mildura and five fantastic local bands included in the lineup, is even more amazing,” Cr Peart said. “It’s fantastic that the money donated by music lovers who came to the Triple j One Night Stand, will be spent on a similar event.”
Local acts Torque, Soul, Loose Bricks, Levi Smith and TVL Trio will all be performing and as with all FReeZA events, “Encore” is a fully-supervised, smoke, drug and alcohol free event. The winner of the Push Start Battle of the Bands will go on to complete at the State Final at the Moomba Festival in Melbourne.
Ben Fitzpatrick, a member of the FReeZA Committee explained they would really love to see the whole community represented at this outdoor event.
“We have put a real focus on encouraging families to join with our teenagers and young people for a night of music and fun, but it’s really a night for the whole community,” Ben said. “We have a lot of hidden talent locally - Mildura’s youth are really talented in so many different things and the music scene is one of them.”
Tickets are on sale now from Mildura Arts Centre and Mildura Visitor and Information Centre with prices starting from $15 and Family tickets for $45. Gates will open at 6pm for a 6:30pm start with the event being fully catered.
