Library fun for all the kids these school holidays

Published on 25 March 2015

With activities planned at all Mildura Rural City Council libraries, there’s bound to be something to help you entertain kids of all ages these school holidays.

This holiday period Library staff have planned 28 sessions aimed at encouraging children to make visiting the library a life-long habit.

Arts and Culture Portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn said that the activities held in the library are a great way to introduce children and young people to the joy that reading can bring.

“As usual there are some fantastic activities planned for pre-school and primary school aged children,” said Cr Joslyn.

The School Holiday Program includes Easter themed activities, as well as a Crazy Circus, Amazing Castles and a Mystic Eye activity just to name a few.

“Council subsidises the programs to keep costs as low as possible,” said Cr Joslyn.  “This season the costs have been capped at $1.60 per child per session which makes it affordable for everyone.

“There are great activities planned at Mildura, Red Cliffs, Irymple and Merbein libraries and it would be wonderful to see people try an activity away from their normal library – get out there and explore some of the other libraries we have in our region.”

Included in the holiday program are the ever popular Lego sessions, which are fast becoming a favourite with the kids.

“The libraries are still looking for Lego donations to make these sessions even bigger and better,” Cr Joslyn said. “If you have some old Lego lying around at home, staff at the library would be pleased to take it off your hands.”

The fun starts at 10:30am on Tuesday 31 March and a full list of the activities is now available at each of Council’s libraries or from the website at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/Council-Services/Libraries

Most of the activities run for around an hour and people are reminded to book early as there are limited spaces for each activity. Bookings can be made at any Mildura Rural City Council library or by calling (03) 5018 8350
