Magical evening of food and opera
Published on 17 February 2015
Last week the foyer of Mildura Arts Centre was the scene of a disco and dance party and this week it’s being transformed yet again – this time into an intimate restaurant.
“The Cook and The Dramatic Soprano” is being presented by Mildura Arts Centre and Mildura Brewery on Saturday 21 February, with a 3-course meal by Stefano de Pieri. While the food is sure to be a highlight, it’s the music which will really set the mood with internationally renowned artists, opera soprano Stefania Bellamio and guitarist Massimo Scattolin performing for guests.
Cr Jill Joslyn said the event is another example of the wide variety of entertainment MAC is now able to offer.
“MAC is really starting to spread its wings and become a venue for all types of events,” Cr Joslyn said. “From conferences to concerts and fashion parades, exhibitions and workshops, MAC is moving beyond what people traditionally expect from a regional arts centre.
“This is our first real foray into a full service sit-down meal and combined with internationally renowned artists, it’s set to be an amazing night.”
Massimo Scattolin is no stranger to Mildura having performed here on a number of occasions. Having been described by music critics as one of the best guitarists of our times, Massimo’s music is in itself reason enough to come along and enjoy the evening. But when partnered with Stefania Bellamio, the combination will certainly be breathtaking.
Stefania graduated in piano and singing from the Conservatory of Rovigo in Italy and since then has had an amazing and accomplished international career.
The Cook and the Dramatic Soprano will feature Massimo and Stefania performing On wings of a Song, an anthology of traditional Italian songs and music by lesser known and in some cases anonymous, composers.
“Whether you’re an avid opera or guitar lover or someone who has never experienced a live dramatic musical performance before, this is sure to be a wonderful night,” Cr Joslyn said. “In an amazing setting looking over the sculpture park at MAC, with great food and intimate table settings, this is one not to miss.”
Tickets are $50 and with a limit of 100 guests, MAC is urging people to get in quickly.
