Make a difference on Council’s Aboriginal Action Committee

Mildura Rural City Council is currently calling for expressions of interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the region to join the Aboriginal Action Committee (AAC). 

The AAC works in collaboration with Council to provide recommendations, support, advice and guidance on all issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents in our community.

This includes working on a range of Council and community projects aimed at improving opportunities, creating greater cultural understanding and respect, and increased recognition across the municipality.

AAC membership consists of community members, Elders, representatives from key local Aboriginal organisations and committees and two Councillors.

There is currently a vacancy for one community representative who can help the AAC achieve its aim of improving and enhancing the well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents.

Expressions of interest for the community representative positions are now open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents and close on Monday 16 July 2018.

Councillor Ali Cupper encouraged residents to submit an EOI for the position.

“This is a valuable opportunity to really make a difference to the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our community,” Cr Cupper said.

“While a lot of progress has been made to improve recognition of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island residents, there’s still a lot more to be done and this is a very effective way of making a difference.”
